IN REMEMBRANCE OF DOMINIQUE KOUMADIO
SHOT TO DEATH BY THE POLICE on April 14, 2006 in Dortmund Eving

On April 14, 2006, Dominique Kouamadio, a 23 year-old Congolese, was shot dead by a policeman in Dortmund. One shot hit Dominique’s heart. The state persecutor judges the act of the police as self-defence and has closed the files. The sister of Dominique, her family and many others believe, that Dominique’s did not need to die. Many still believe, that if he was not from Africa and had not a black skin, he still would live.
After Dominique's sister appealed against the closure of the files the legal investigation against the police officer was closed again by the state persecutor due to self-defence. The sister of Dominique pushed for a legal court case. She was intimidated. Her relationship with Dominique doubted. With suspicious arguments her wish for a legal investigation was rejected.
On April 14, 2016 is the 10th memorial of Dominique Koumadio's death. On this tenth anniversairy of his death we want to remember all the victims of racist police brutality and at the same time denounce the reasons why people have to flee, what they experience here, and finally that a residence permit is no guarantee that you are not shot dead by the police.
On the occasion of Dominique's tenth anniversary we remember as well other victims of racist police and state violence: Aamir Ageeb, Halim Dener, Zdravko Nikolov Dimitrov, Oury Jalloh, Laye Konde, Michael Paul Nwabuisi genannt John Achidi, Christy Omorodion Schwundeck, N'deye Mareame Sarr, Arumugasamy Subramaniam. We charge the colonial injustice that is inherent to all this crimes and call for solidarity among refugees and migrants to shape a future where racist police violence, deportation, exploitation, and wars are eliminated.
